Description Sebastien Bacher 2006-09-15 08:45:39 UTC
That bug has been opened on https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/60277

"I recently tried to browse the Windows Network here on campus, but the icons for networks and systems don't appear until after I (unsucessfully) attempt to open them. Will attach screenshots.

Another unusual symptom is that When in the location "smb:///", each time I press ctrl-R or click the reload button, the icons representing the different workgroups switch between blank, filled with text, and the proper workgroup icon, but not all at the same time, so some will be blank, some will be filled with text, and some might be correct."
Comment 1 Michael R Head 2006-09-15 08:57:34 UTC
There is a series of screenshots at the launchpad report showing the entire process.

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=361951 seems to me to be related
Comment 3 Writser Cleveringa 2006-10-19 18:27:05 UTC
Note that on my computer, I can't open any workgroup / share if it is displayed with a blank icon. I have to refresh the Nautilus window several times until the correct icon appears. Also, when I see the correct icon and refresh, sometimes it is converted back to a blank icon and I can't access the workgroup / share anymore. Some screenshots:

I have a DHCP-network at home, and use Nautilus 2.16.1 (from Ubuntu Edgy). I have not accessed the 'shared folders' applet yet, nor have I edited my samba configuration. So, everything is configured as default.
Comment 4 NoWhereMan 2006-10-19 18:59:38 UTC
hit ctrl+l in nautilus and type smb://
hit enter and you'll be able to browse again
Comment 5 Writser Cleveringa 2006-10-19 19:11:19 UTC
Unfortunately that doesn't always work. I do return to the root of the network, but sometimes 'mshome' is still shown as a blank icon. See:

http://home.fmf.nl/~writser/ubuntu/smb.png

This happened immediately after ctrl+l and typing smb://

I can confirm this bug, and had reported it earlier today on the launchpad website: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gnome-vfs2/+bug/68611

Appeared on both Ubuntu Edgy systems I tested this on. On my Ubuntu 6.06 system, this works fine (Nautilus 2.14.3).
Comment 10 Sebastien Bacher 2006-11-03 23:03:29 UTC
fixed with CVS according to the ChangeLog
Comment 11 NoWhereMan 2006-11-04 08:29:06 UTC

Sebastien: How has this been fixed?

I could still reproduce it today without a patch I hacked up recently:

Comment 14 Sebastien Bacher 2006-12-25 10:41:33 UTC
It has been fixed by alex some weeks ago: http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/gnome-vfs/daemon/daemon-connection.c?r1=1.4&r2=1.5

The fix has been tested by different people and works fine
