hmm... what exactly does that "error indicating a permission problem" say?
can you start evolution-data-server seperately and post the output here?
Comment 2 Mikael Cluseau 2008-01-08 12:50:52 UTC
I have exactly the same error on Gentoo since a few weeks :

** (evolution:10913): WARNING **: bbdb: failed to open addressbook: EBookStatus returned 20

I don't know what is the EBookStatus of 20.

The message about file permissions asks me to check them, but they are good :

drwxr-xr-x 10 nwrk users 4096 jan 8 23:34 .evolution/
drwxr-xr-x 4 nwrk users 4096 jan 7 19:50 .evolution/addressbook/
drwxr-x--- 18 nwrk users 4096 jan 7 19:50 .evolution/addressbook/local/
drwxr-x--- 2 nwrk users 4096 déc 2 07:36 .evolution/addressbook/local/system/

File on .evolution/addressbook/local/system/addressbook.db returns :

Berkeley DB (Hash, version 9, native byte-order)

I thought it could be linked to a change in my Berkley DB version so I removed the "addressbook/local" folder, launched Evo and had the same error. Evo creates the local/system folder; I tried to create another addressbook, same error, with the folder created (ie "1199796188.801.0@nwrk"). These folders are created empty.

Also, I can't remove these addressbooks, without much information (translate approx. to "unable to remove the addressbook").

Dear reporter,

is this still an issue for you? Please reopen, if so.
Comment 4 Mikael Cluseau 2008-08-27 20:52:22 UTC
It is no more an issue. It seemed to be a problem with Berkley DB (maybe an update).

Thanks for your support!
