GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 355604
Serpentine does not auto-detect disc capacity
Last modified: 2014-09-01 09:59:34 UTC
This bug report has been forwarded from https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/serpentine/+bug/55228 """ Several times now I've been caught out when burning audio CDs with serpentine. It does not set it's disc capacity setting automatically to match the disc that is inserted, but it also does not provide any warning or indication that the user should set this manually. The setting is right there on the front of the GUI, but there's nothing saying I should set it myself, and I don't expect to have to, so I don't notice it. If you burn an audio CD with the disc capacity set wrong in Serpentine, it fails. It makes a coaster. Doesn't play in either hifi or computer. Worse, it took me several attempted burns, and attempting to use Gnomebaker instead, before I realised what was happening. """ Tiago has commented on the downstream bug report previously
Another reason why capacity auto-detect would be useful: Burning media with unforeseen disc sizes is not supported. For example, yesterday I wanted to burn a CD with 210MB/22 minutes which is not listed in serpentine. Of course, you can always select a larger disc size but this is just a workaround (and a usability glitch).
This once existed, but in a time where the D-Bus bindings were really unstable.
Serpentine maintainer(s) have not worked on Serpentine for some years now. This project is not under active development anymore. It is currently unlikely that there will be any further active development. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Please feel free to reopen this bug report in the future if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again.
