Description Don Scorgie 2006-08-24 18:14:43 UTC
1. Select an item from the pane (either a menu entry within a category or a menu itself, within Applications). The "Move Up" and "Move Down" become active.
2. Assume that these move the menu item up or down the list and click them
3. Witness that the menu item doesn't move, either in the pane, or in the menu itself.

Okay a little more.

Adding a "New Separator" adds a separator to the menu itself. This new separator doesn't show up in the items pane. Clicking "Move Up" or "Move Down" makes the separator disappear from the menu.

... and more.

Selecting "New Menu" doesn't update the Menus to show the new menu. You have to exit and restart to see it. The "New Item" is the same.

The tick boxes in the "show" column don't update when clicked either.

I feel I'm doing something stupid here, but it makes Alacarte almost unusable for me :( .
Comment 3 Don Scorgie 2006-08-24 19:58:38 UTC
Once more.

The "Move {Up|Down}" do apparently work, but the interface isn't updated to show it.

Also, (and probably because of this) each action is only activated once per run. E.g. If I want to move "Accessories" to the bottom of the menu, I start up Alacarte and move it once. I then have to restart it and move it down once again. Repeat until its at the bottom of the menu.

Oh dear, it sounds like gnome-menus is no longer feeding alacarte menu update notifications. Please run from a terminal and look for errors. I cannot reproduce on my machine.

Hi,

Sorry if I came off as aggressive in the bug report or email. I was annoyed for totally separate reasons ;)

Anyway, there is no warnings or anything printed out in the terminal (except for a bonobo warning:
/var/lib/python-support/python2.4/gtk-2.0/bonobo/__init__.py: inconsistent use of tabs and spaces in indentation
which shouldn't affect anything).

I'm running Ubuntu Edgy, but the problem persists with a clean build from CVS. Unfortunately, I can't test under jhbuild proper due to bug #351898

For a while I had this bug too. It has now gone away on my machine, gnome-menus must have been fixed.
