GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 351974
[0.109] french translation.
Last modified: 2006-08-23 05:09:37 UTC
Here is the first draft for french translation. It is done at around 95-98% :) Only 90 minutes of copy/paste and checking ;) I will just wait for Christophe Gisquet - as he helped me before for previous version - reading and patching to call it "ready to go".
Created attachment 71175 [details] 1st draft for 0.109 - waiting for Christophe Gisquet patches. Well, Christophe, here it is. Do your job and tell me what to modify ;)
Created attachment 71207 [details] [review] Diff against candidate translation Some corrections I guess you won't object but some that need some explaining: - here and there, "Error doing..." is either translated as "Erreur au", "Erreur de, "Erreur du", and then some other. I tried to use "Erreur de" wherever possible - Followup-To and Reply-To maybe should not be translated for clarity but at least some MUA like thunderbird do translate them - '"Effacer" le filtre' first sounded to me ambiguous on whether it empties or deletes it. "Vider" might me less confusing but sounds weird.
No I won't :) Ok. for "errors". I had some doubts on some lines. I also had doubts on "reply-to" this is why I left them blank. And "clear the filter" ? I had a lot of doubt about them. I think also about superseding "obtenir" "/ "obtient" par "récupérer" / "récupères" which matches better. 2nd candidate for translation will be available in a few minutes. If you made any more corrections, I won't look at them before tonight - because of real life :)
Created attachment 71229 [details] 2nd candidate. Maybe the final one ? Here is the 2nd draft which - is Christophe ok with this one - the final version for next release. Christophe, I'm waiting for your "green light" ;) Have a good day.
Charles, I think you can check it in - if you want - for 0.110 release. As we say in France : "no news is good news" ;)
Yes indeed, I'm fine with this translation. I would only suggest very minor changes (like capital letters) but nothing reducing understandability, therefore I don't think it's worth another round untill some later version. I don't know how Charles see things, but maybe we could slow down a bit the editing: French is, of course after English, the most completely translated language. And I would think the minor incremental updates are not worth the (even minor) mailbox cluttering, especially Charles who has other bug reports to tend.
I do agree. I will only update if there is new lines to translate. It will help make translation work better, and will also help increasing my spare time :P
I agree with Christophe. Given the very short life span of any given beta, I'm not sure how much benefit there is in trying to get each release perfect. Rest assured, there will be a good freeze period before 1.0 for translators. I will have to get Pan into GNOME CVS at that time so that all the various translation teams can have a go at it. Thanks very much to both of you for your work on the translations and other i18n issues so far :)
I will continue to look at i18n issues, and I think a new version every two beta releases starting with 0.110 (and then 0.112, 0.114, let's hope not until 0.124 :) will be my rule for now. And so, it will be better when freeze will happen, it will help at least both of us (and other translators) to make the best release. I was just wanting that in order to help finding bad bugs by adding not only english-speaking users ;)
