GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 350527
Feature request: bring back "Save"
Last modified: 2011-12-03 11:40:58 UTC
pan 0.14 had two ways to save files. One was "Save as...", which prompts the user for text vs. binary and a target directory. The other was "Save", which skipped the prompt and used whatever settings were established from the most recent "Save as..."). Anyway, it would be nice to regain this time-saving feature. I usually set up a directory for downloads one time at the beginning of the session, and then go through many iterations of selecting/downloading items. Thanks!
I could use this too, but don't consider it a priority for 1.0. It'd be very useful for 1.1, tho! =8^)
This request is seconded by at least one Debian user at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=391327

I'd really like to see this feature included in version 1.0. In fact, I'd rather use version 0.14.2 if the newer version doesn't have an option for the old behaviour. If the feature doesn't make it to 1.0, would you kindly suggest a patch or other workaround? Thanks!
Well, what saved me here (and why I didn't consider it must-have 1.0), is simply the fact that one can select many items and hit the save dialog only once. If everything is going to the same place, might as well. If not, well, one would be opening the save dialog and changing the path at least once per changed location anyway, so no big deal. So ideally, one just deletes the garbage, leaving only stuff to save, then selects all, and hit's the save dialog only once per group. Duncan
Thanks Duncan. I'll try this out!
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. However, you are using a version that is too old and not supported anymore. GNOME developers are no longer working on that version, so unfortunately there will not be any bug fixes for the version that you use. By upgrading to a newer version of GNOME you could receive bug fixes and new functionality. You may need to upgrade your Linux distribution to obtain a newer version of GNOME. Please feel free to reopen this bug if the problem still occurs with a newer version of GNOME.
