Please describe the problem:
Shogun sibmitted a patch to the list to update the Gentoo backend code:

Tha patch would not apply to CVS HEAD so I imagine it was for some 0.6.x source

I've tried to pach his changes into CVS head.

new patch updated to current Gentoo Baselayout

I got this patch from Nathan Caldwell <saintdev@gmail.com> and it's more updated to our baselayout. Feel free to take a look and comment some changes. This is against 0.6 i'll plan to commit to cvs in a few days.

I suggest sourcing /etc/conf.d/net configuration file (it's just a shell script) before startup and work with environmental variables set by it. This will be more robust approach.

I plan to make a patch implementing dial-up support on Gentoo using this approach.

i put a hold on this because the baselayout-2 (writen in C) is almost done and we need to write a new backend for NM.
