GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 349653
Support multiple log versions.
Last modified: 2020-09-26 09:40:45 UTC
In my /var/log folder, I have the following files: ruben@tokyo:~ $ ls -l /var/log/mail.log* -rw-r----- 1 root adm 758 2006-08-02 11:02 /var/log/mail.log -rw-r----- 1 root adm 43987 2006-08-02 08:57 /var/log/mail.log.0 -rw-r----- 1 root adm 1427 2006-07-18 10:38 /var/log/mail.log.1.gz -rw-r----- 1 root adm 3195 2006-07-12 08:23 /var/log/mail.log.2.gz -rw-r----- 1 root adm 7763 2006-06-29 07:19 /var/log/mail.log.3.gz To go through all these logs, I have to open each of the seperatly. I can't even open the compressed logs without deflating them. It would be nice to see the log viewer automatically open and combine /var/log/mail.log.0, /var/log/mail.log.1.gz etc when I open /var/log/mail.log. This would make log auditing a much easier task.

Confirming because of duplicate.
This has also been added in on LP - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-utils/+bug/161838 any chance of a status update? Cheers, J
Yes, I plan to work on this during the 2.27 cycle.
gnome-system-log is not under active development anymore and had its last code changes more than four years ago. Its codebase has been archived at https://gitlab.gnome.org/Archive/gnome-system-log/ Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is being shut down) if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again.
