Overburning option is no longer available (it was present in 0.3). This is a regression, even if 0.3 would always crash when trying to overburn ;)
Comment 1 Philippe Rouquier 2006-07-07 06:07:00 UTC
It's present, but I decided to display overburn dialog just if you press burn button. That was done for two reasons:
1- I don't want as fewer dialogs showing up as possible while you are dragging a file since it freezes the whole desktop.
2- It happened some times that the dialogs for overburn was quickly followed by the dialog for oversize and then two click to close (one for nothing).

So if you think the overburn dialog should appear before we click on burn button,
I'll try to change that. I could put it at the end of the exploration of all the selection which could be better perhaps.

I keep this bugs assigned but tell me if it indeed work for you as expected (overburn dialog when burn pressed) and also if you think I should change that.

Ahh, then it's actually a bug in inotify renaming code it seems. I'm not sure anymore how I triggered it, but I got some ghost 1000KB that was there even though no files were in the project, and that apparently confused the code enough to not ask for overburn. I think it was after I was playing with renaming, I can try to reproduce it. Do you consider bugs in renaming code report-worthy, or is it too unstable yet?

As for the behaviour itself, yes, it makes sense. However, it might be good to make the UI less scary (right now it does blinking and stuff). Or maybe not, overburning *is* scary after all, probably it's better to keep it somewhat hidden.
Comment 4 Philippe Rouquier 2006-07-11 16:33:42 UTC
All bugs are report-worthy. They only live to be fixed =).

As for the ghost 1000KB, I can partly explain it. I can't manage to find out how mkisofs exactly calculates the size of the final iso. This is just an approximation. So to make sure that everything fits on a CD I add 500 extra sectors to the calculated size but that's not very "scientific". It's just to make sure that we won't be oversized. That usually remains unnoticed with large amount of data but if you add just one small file, then you can't miss it.
I should add that I fixed a couple of bugs in the renaming code; with a little luck I fixed this one.

Now, as for overburn, I'll add an extra check; that should do the trick.

For the blinking I don't know. Instead of that, I had thought about changing the background colour to green (no problem), orange for overburn and red for oversized. But that might not fit well with some themes.

So in the end, I don't know what to do with this bug. I propose to wait for 0.4.0 to be released and you'll tell me if it's still relevant.
Comment 5 Philippe Rouquier 2006-09-06 14:52:17 UTC
I close this one since the new project size widget fixes the problems you raised.

Hi,

There still is no way to activate overburn when trying to burn an .ISO file. There is no question asking you if you want to activate it, it just doesn't let you burn it at all.

So I think the bug should be reopened.

I just got this error message when trying to burn a 703 Mb ISO:

"Not enough space in DVDRW SOSW-833S.

Replace with a recordable disk".

I had a rewritable 700 MB disk in the tray.
