Original bug opened in bugzilla.redhat.com by Russell Strong (rstrong@bigpond.net.au) on 2006-02-24 03:56 EST
Bug 182716

Description of problem:
clicking on any of the menu items or any of the launchers in the panel would not
launch the application. The "launching ..." would appear down the bottom, the
cursor would indicate somthing was happening, then about 30 seconds later the
"launching ..." and cursor activity would stop. No application launched.

Note: this happened about 5 minutes after logging in. i.e. it was working but
stopped suddenly

My entry to Bug:
This exact problem happenes to me as well. And not just once, but everytime I
try and use my computer. But with mine, certian things do come up such as
display configuration or folders

It occured to me that this bug probibaly is not related to the os, but the desktop environment.
OS: Fedora Core 5
Note: applications launced during first 5 min after login work fine, and continue to work fine. Issue is with launching new apps.

P.S. I'm a former windows user who has just discovered the joy and endless possabilities of linux and gnome. Please speak idiot to me.

Thanks for the bug report Melvin!

Could you try to run the panel from a terminal in order to see its output?
Run:

gnome-session-remove gnome-panel ; gnome-panel

Unfortunetly that perticular peice of equipment had a hard drive failure (super-smart 2yr old + toilet, still dont know how he got into the box...) But I will pass that request on to the original poster on redhat's bugzilla. Hopefully this issue doesnt rear its head again.

Thank you for your intrest,

Melvin

"hard drive failure"... right. :)

Thanks Melvin, for the feedback. No known way to reproduce, no duplicates. Closing incomplete, then.

Please feel free to reopen this bug if you ever can reproduce this issue and provide the information asked for. Thanks!
