Filling cells with a data series (e.g. 1/1/2004,1/2/2004,etc) works only when dragging down. If you have 1/3/2004 and 1/4/2004 in two cells, select both and drag the + corner down it will fill with 1/5/2004, 1/6/2004, etc. If you drag up it will copy the bottom cell to all empty cells (in this case 1/4/2004)

Fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major release. Thank you for your bug report.
