Description Sebastien Bacher 2006-06-15 10:08:51 UTC
That bug has been opened on https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/49444

"The "From" line/string presented by evolution has some characters missing and some twisted.
For example , the original string in the message source is :

From: asf.ro PostMaster <mail.administrator@asf.ro>

However, evolution displays it as :

From: asf.roP <ostMaster mail.administrator@asf.ro>

This happens always in evolutions for the error messages sent by mailservers.
Other email clients work fine;
The string is correct in the message source shown by evolution with CTRL-U but it is not correct when displayed on the screen.
See the following attachments with a screenshot of the message as displayed by evolution and with the source for that message as shown by evolution.
...
http://librarian.launchpad.net/3025146/Erroneous%20message%20display.png
This is the screenshot mentioned in the bugreport.
...
http://librarian.launchpad.net/3025147/msgsource.txt
... And this is the message source as shown by evolution at CTRL-u. It is clearly visible that in the source
the characters are not twisted, so we should exclude a mailserver problem.
...
Distribution is Ubuntu Dapper, as upgraded from previous Breezy.
Evolution : 2.6.1-0ubuntu7"

I can confirm this bug for Evolution 2.10.1.

Here is another example...

Message source:
From: Dr. Very B. Important <very@xxx.com>

is displayed as:
From: Dr.VeryB <.Important very@xxx.com>

Here,

From: SourceForge.net Community Choice Awards <nobody@sourceforge.net>

gets displayed as

SourceForge.netC <ommunity Choice Awards nobody@sourceforge.net>

Right-clicking on the email address, choosing "Copy Email Address" copies the following to the clipboard:

"SourceForge.netC" <"ommunity Choice Awards nobody"@sourceforge.net>

Clicking "Reply" enters the following as the To: address:

SourceForge.netC <ommunity Choice Awards nobody@sourceforge.net>

Searching for "Community" (or "community") gives no results in the folder, but searching for "ommunity" and "netC" does. This would be annoying when I tried to search for the email and only remember that it came from a 'community', because I could not find that email with this.

BTW, this email has been (wrongly) marked as Junk, maybe this was an issue with the other emails, too? I've moved the email to an archive folder before noticing the bug.

Same problem in evolution 2.30.2, in Debian.
Is there anyone already working on this problem?

Thanks,
Giuseppe
Comment 5 Vlad 2010-07-13 12:44:00 UTC
Can confirm the problem still exist on Mandriva 2010 Spring and Evolution 2.30.2

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/Community/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new bug report ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
