GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 343535
Unchecking gdm in services-admin continues to start gdm at boot
Last modified: 2009-08-25 21:02:28 UTC
That bug has been opened on https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gnome-system-tools/+bug/31803 "User goes to System->Administration->Services, enters password, and unchecks gdm GDM still starts at boot. See the thread below for 2 users with that problem. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=128168 ... > Thanks for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? ... Others in that forum thread reproduced it in Breezy. I just reproduced it in Dapper. In Dapper, the behaviour is as follows: Uncheck the check mark. Warning dialog box pops up saying that you may lose data. Click yes, and gdm shuts down immediately. On a reboot, gdm starts up again. However, this works: Uncheck the check mark. Warning dialog box pops up saying that you may lose data. Click yes, and gdm shuts down immediately. Log in, and type startx. Go to services-admin. Uncheck gdm again, click yes, and then click OK. GDM is now disabled. :)"
Gone, according to the original reporter in Launchpad.
