GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 342869
Performance is too slow with big documents
Last modified: 2018-05-22 12:41:17 UTC
Yelp needs near a minute to show Gnumeric help for the first time. (On a K8 3000+ ). The problem is related with the size of Gnumeric Manual. We need a faster way to deal with big documents.
Hi, Are you using yelp 2.14 and gnome-doc-utils >= 0.5.2 ? The gnome-doc-utils is important as there was a massive speed improvement in later versions. See: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-doc-devel-list/2005-December/msg00020.html If you are experiencing problems with later releases, please indicate which versions of yelp and gnome-doc-utils you are using. Thanks. Marking bug as NEEDINGO.
the yelp:cache extension element has been added to reduce this time from 55secs for the Gnumeric manual to 25s (see bug 320087). We are still working on coming up for a solution for processing documents by page instead of the entire document at once.
Marking as a dependant on the new yelp paging system, which does per-page loading and speeds up displaying manuals.
(In reply to comment #2) > the yelp:cache extension element has been added to reduce this time from > 55secs for the Gnumeric manual to 25s (see bug 320087). Its use has been disabled in http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/yelp?view=revision&revision=2907 for reasons that are not clear to me from the log message.
