GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 342159
Should run in notification area
Last modified: 2013-09-13 00:49:46 UTC
quote "When you use Gaim it stays running even when you close out of it so that if people IM you it opens back up to inform you. Evolution should run the same way. I should be able to check my email, and when I am done close out of it, but have it so it is still running in my notification area so when someone emails me it notifies me. Thanks. :)" Other information: This a forward of debian bug no. 356463[1] [1] - http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=356463
notificating the arrival of email in notification area is a nice like not having the obligation of having evolution open in the desktop.
"minimize it?" sounds like a WONTFIX to me, definitely. comments? :-)
minimize wont do, because it is not cross desktop and notification area is the place where to put programs that can notify the user of some event. instead of using an OSD message of new email, for example, you can draw a ballon in notification area.
This code notifies: http://beranger.org/index.php?article=1346 I don't know how to make the status icon the only Evo button on the desktop, but if it is, it should change icons to indicate new mail and errors and such.

It can notify you that a mail has arrived or some other stuff, like the osd messages. A good point is to have the behavior the same as liferea... that can minimize to the tray icon.
> It can notify you that a mail has arrived that exists in evolution 2.12. we do NOT want to minimize the entire evolution window to the notification area.
