GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 341005
Bookmarks on toolbar get cut-off randomly
Last modified: 2007-10-31 22:35:31 UTC
That bug has been opened on https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/epiphany-browser/+bug/43161 "Some bookmarks on the bookmarks toolbar have their text cut-off for no clear reason. For example, a bookmark with the name 'Rosanne' is displayed as 'Rosan...', while a bookmark with the (much longer) name 'Mi Viaje a Guatemala' is displayed in its entirety. I have found no relation between the bookmark texts and this issue, other than that it always happens when I start a bookmark with 'Ro', but some other texts work too. For example, 'Tweakers.net' gets cut-off to 'Tweakers...'. I will attach a small screenshot below. http://librarian.launchpad.net/2501606/epiphany-toolbar.png Both bookmarks have the same url. The full text of the second one is 'Rosanne'. Removing the bookmark and creating it again does not help. Entering 'Rosanne' as text for another existing bookmark triggers the issue again."
I've observed this "feature" as well. Peter, what do you think of it?

Comment on attachment 65448 [details] Screenshot showing possible Pango bug I can provide a similar screenshot with the topics on toolbar. I think it's a Pango issue with ellipsizing. The full text of the topic in my screenshot is "Fun".
Might be a problem specific to toolitems, since I haven't seen bogus ellipsisations elsewhere...

This also occurs in the bookmarks menu for me.
See also http://bugs.debian.org/400776 I can't reproduce this bug myself, but other users confirm.
Created attachment 80118 [details] Menu screenshot In fact, I see it in the bookmarks menu also.
The original submitter of the Debian bug found it is fixed in epiphany 2.20.
I'm actually running Epiphany 2.18 (but with the rest of GNOME at 2.20). Sorry for not noting that.
Marking FIXED based on comment #9. Please feel free to reopen the bug if the problem occurs again.
