Description Dan Siemon 2006-05-06 16:50:20 UTC
The current range of values for the display sleep timeout is 0-1 hour and never. I find this range too small. Timeout values shorter than one hour result in the monitor entering the sleep state several times throughout the day unnecessarily. For example, an hour long lunch.

I prefer my display stay active throughout the day. The reasoning behind this preference is that the thermal stress caused by turning on and off the display may reduce the lifetime of the display more than the additional operational time. Note: I am not an electrical engineer.

For me, a sleep timeout of about 2 hours would be much better.

I think this is a valid argument, although I'm sure that moderm monitors are designed for the repeated cycling (certainly any energystar monitors).

Jaap, what do you think about this?

After a disussion on the mailing list, it was agreed it should stay at 1 hour max -- sorry.
