That bug has been opened on https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/42889

"If I browse a Samba share, which I accessed through Network Server browser, and press Ctrl-F try to search a filename no relevante results ever show up, the search is always performed in the local filesystem.

If you want to reproduce the problem, open up a Samba share (i.e. smb://<server>/share), create a file there with the name "aaaaaa", press Ctrl-F and type "aaaaaa". Even though the file is right there in front of you, the search will never be performed on the Samba share you're browsing."

Is this because nautilus only allows one search client. So if they have beagle installed it will just use that no matter where they are?

My proposal is to allow selection of the various search components. If the user is in a place that the enhanced searcher (beagle, tracker etc.) can search then automatically select them. If the user is in a remote location then use default nautilus searcher.

If this bug is just about nautilus been able to search any vfs location with the default searcher, then I am sure I will fix it on the way ;).

Searching on VFS works now. Still work needed to make it snappy however.
