I recently created a plugin that makes it possible to copy a seletion as a
text/html selection.

Please link it on http://live.gnome.org/Gedit/Plugins and package it yourself.

We gedit team decided not to include it in gedit-plugins because of very specific use case (actually we don't see any use case but the one of wysiwyg blog editor).
