Description Sven Herzberg 2006-04-24 14:51:48 UTC
I have a really big mailbox, when I disconnect (read: when I want to switch to offline mode), evolution still checks for new mail.

I would expect to stop periodic updates while disconnting and not only after being disconnected.

hi herzi, could be related/the same issue as bug 333821.
Comment 2 Sven Herzberg 2006-04-24 15:31:07 UTC
I don't know about the warnings from bug 333821 it's just that it takes ages to disconnect over a narrow connection because i have a large mailbox that requires several minutes to sync before getting offline (and the checks do really delay this operation).

Ubuntu bug similar to that: https://launchpad.net/products/evolution/+bug/50753

"Evolution hangs when closing when I'm offline

I have an IMAP account set up in Evolution 2.6.1. When I am offline and close Evolution, it hangs.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open Evolution.

2. sudo ifdown eth0.

3. Close evolution.

I expect: evolution to close.
I get: evolution hangs.
...
> Thanks for your bug. When you are offline, do you use the offline mode, or are you just describing the case where you are dropped from a network while using evolution?
...
Dropped from the network."

I see this on Evo 2.10.1 (but have seen it as far back as I can remember; at least 2.6.x). It's annoying to me, not because of the hang, but because messages received while shutting down do not get filtered or processed for junk. I must manually filter these messages when I next start up Evo.

I use networkmanager for my networking, so evo does go offline whenever my network goes down. This is still a problem, if I ever exit evo when my network is up, since 99% of my email is either filtered into folders or is junk.

Is this still an issue in a current version, like 2.24 or 2.26?
Comment 6 Akhil Laddha 2009-10-27 05:21:30 UTC
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug; however, closing due to lack of
response of the reporter, sorry. if you still see this issue with a current
release of evolution (2.26.3 or 2.28.x or later), please reopen. thanks in advance.
