GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 338777
banshee does not play or import m4a files
Last modified: 2006-04-17 21:58:17 UTC
Please describe the problem: Banshee refuses to import m4a files or play them from the command line. I suspect it is not a GStreamer problem, as gst-launch-0.10 is able to play them fine. Steps to reproduce: Actual results: When playback of a m4a file is attempted from the command line, Banshee complains: Could not load: No reader associated with MimeType: audio/mp4 Upon attempted importation: Cannot Import: /home/martey/music/The Postal Service/Give Up/01 - The District Sleeps Alone Tonight.m4a (Entagged.Audioformats.Exceptions.UnsupportedFormatException) Expected results: Does this happen every time? I was able to play a m4a file that was "grandfathered" into my library. When I removed it and tried to re-import it, I received the same error as above. Other information:
I have added audio/mp4 as a supported mimetype for that metadata reader. For some reason it was not added already. Can you try importing using Banshee built from CVS/HEAD? Also, can you run this command and report the output here: gst-typefind-0.10 "/home/martey/music/The Postal Service/Give Up/01 - The District Sleeps Alone Tonight.m4a" Thanks.
I am happy to report that CVS Banshee imports m4a files wonderfully. gst-typefind returns: /home/martey/music/The Postal Service/Give Up/01 - The District Sleeps Alone Tonight.m4a - audio/x-m4a
Great!
