Upon the user changing their nick, x-g should try and send the nickserv password, if one exists for the new nick on that server.

This might require splitting the identity stuff into it's own dialog.

Fedora 8's XChat-GNOME 0.18  does send the nickserv password and re-authenticate you if the new nick is aliased to your earlier nick.
