With CVS HEAD, after a successfull autogen.sh, make doesn't build anything in the gst/ directory. I traced it down to a missing AC_SUBST in common/m4/gst-args.m4 (at least that fixes it, I'll let you decide if it's the right fix :)

I was using the automake/autoconf versions jhbuild chose for me, ie automake 1.9.6 and autoconf 2.59

hm, this is very surprising.

Are you saying this is only a problem in -bad, and not in any of the other modules ? That would be very strange.

Also, no one has ever run into this.

Can you attach gst/Makefile (built without your patch) so I can see ?
