Description Quim Gil 2006-03-27 15:50:51 UTC
Dave complains:

The site is looking really nice, but we seem to have lost some
functionality again.

I can't find any "stories" linked off the front page. For example,
nowhere can I find a link to Kathy Sierra and Jim Gettys as keynotes - I
was looking for it to figure out how to announce Simon Phipps, but I got
a little lost on the site.

----------------------

We need a news-only block in the homepage linking to a news-only list page. Old and new users are going to feel one day the need to get updated and see what news have been published until now. With the current setting the only way to do this is going through the "What's new" listing, which is a pain.

We also need to categorize content to find the information semantically (i.e. anything relating to keynotes, or accommodation, or... I'm going to file a bug about this and assign it to myself.

We will be adding a page just for keynote speakers when we re-organize the site content. the url should be GUADEC2006/keynote. You will be able to edit that page and add any new keynote speakers.

I've renamed the GUADEC development vocabuary to "Site Categories" to organize the site's content with taxonomies.

I've added a term called "News" where all stories, pages that are news should be tagged with. I've gone through all the current stories and tagged them as "news." I've also changed the "Recent Updates" listing to "News & Announcements" which pulls the nodes in the "News" term.

I'll take a look at the taggadelic module and try to incorporate it into the site. We should create a new vocabulary called "GUADEC2006 topics" and allow users to added terms to that vocabulary using "freetagging." I will create a page called "Archive" with a tag cloud to display all the topics that going to be presented at GUADEC 2006.

Ok, now the block has news only, but there is stil no page listing News only. If you click on the News block header you still get to /tracker - which is confusing and quite useless to find old news. Reopening.

Also, the block header says:

News & Announcments

should be

News & Announcements

Another suggestion is to add a link with "More" at the end, since it's not clear that you can continue reading news just by having the title clickable.

I've changed the title to "News & Announcements" linked to taxonomy/term/18/all which will display all the nodes in the "News" term. I've also created a new alias called "news" to taxonomy/term/18/all so that if people go to http://beta.guadec.org/news, they will see a page listing all the nodes in the "news" term.

Great, this works now. One bug less. :)
