Dave Neary reports:

Hi,

I just wrote a blog entry for the call for papers, and was navigating
around the site a bit, and there are definitely a few more places where
we should add a link to "Submit an abstract".

  * Front page, sidebar
   - Publish just doesn't get the meaning across.
  * Schedule page
   - Right at the top - "Submit an abstract for the conference! Deadline
is March 31st"
  * Front page, news item (at the bottom of the first news item, before
the "Read more" fold)
   - People need to be aware the deadline is March 31st.
  * After someone is logged in
   - It's a fair assumption that people will be registering for the site
to submit a paper. A link to "Submit an abstract" in the user account
page (in the sidebar, perhaps) would be useful.
  * The list of presentations already submitted
   - Where is this??? I couldn't find it. It should also have a link to
submit.

Tommi Komulainen also reports at #guadec:

tko: hmm.. dave blogged 'Just search for all articles with the "Presentation" type' .. now, starting from beta.guadec.org just where exactly is the search? :)

Waiting for tavon's design, by now I've evolved the formerly called Betatest! block. Now it's a "You can..." block in all pages where at least the main actions are listed and reachable in a single click.

The list of presentations submitted is missing though because I have no clue about PHP.

Murray complains:

I believe that I have already submitted a proposal. However, althought
the page says "You may then edit it at anytime.", I can't find it via
the website now.

-----

Although a savvy Drupal user would know that you can log in, then What's New, then My recent posts... we can't expect this from the guadec.org users and anyway is not an optimal way to find presentations.

IMO in the homepage we need a block with "Submitted sessions" only showing the 5 recent and a link to a page with a list of all the presentations submitted. Mixing presentations and news in the Recent Updates block is not that useful and anyway links to What's New listing where everythig gets mixed and there is no way to find easily i.e. Murray's presentation.

Setting Priority to Urgent.
Comment 3 Quim Gil 2006-03-30 08:24:57 UTC
We probabky need a nicer format for the presentations i.e. having the language etc one word fields put in an horizontal table instead of consuming so much vertical space.

This would create a more professional look to the presentations.

However, the core aspects of this bug have been solved, therefore I'll lower the severity/priority.

Excellent. Thanks.

Quim asked me to comment so I am :)

Right now to get to presentations from beta.guadec.org, there are three steps:
1) click on guadec2006 (why? there is no need for two toplevel pages, the current year is the top level.)
2) click on schedule and events (when I think of presentations I think of "what" and not "when" -- this is confusing)
3) click on presentations

I would think that the presentations should get their own entry in the sidebar at least. Also I would think that guadec2006 would be the top level.

OK that's it. The web site is getting a lot better, keep up the good work.

Also I had to tell a coworker how to get to the presentations page
Comment 7 John Hwang 2006-03-30 20:23:14 UTC
Andy, thanks for the feedback. I agree, schedule/presentations probably overkill given that we don't have that many menus to categorize at the moment.

I've moved the Presentations link one level to GUADEC2006/presentations. You can find it on the GUADEC2006 block.
Comment 8 Quim Gil 2006-10-01 21:48:51 UTC
At the end we got +100 presentations. Closing the bug.
