Description Wouter Bolsterlee (uws) 2006-03-13 08:53:28 UTC
The main window shows which song is currently playing. However, only the artist and the title are visible. There's no way to find out which album this track belongs to, except for opening the "Play album" dialog, typing in the artist name and match the cover art... Why not display the album name below the track name in the main window?

Proposed fix

This patch adds a single line with the album name below the artist name in the main window.

Screenshot after applying this patch

This screenshot shows the main window playing a song after my patch is applied.

This won't work with bigger font sizes. With my 12pt font for example this won't fit.
Comment 4 Wouter Bolsterlee (uws) 2006-03-13 09:30:26 UTC
What is "won't fit"? You mean the text is larger than the cover image?

Can you confirm that the non-discoverablity of the current album in fact IS a usability problem?
Comment 5 Jorn Baayen 2006-03-13 09:35:42 UTC
Exactly.

Usually the album can be identified using the cover image; and in any case the image widget has a tooltip containing the album name.
Ideally the tooltip functionality would be easier to discover, but I don't think it's a good idea to put the album name in the main window. The fewer of not 100% necessary bits of info presents, the better.

Hmmm, I didn't know about the tooltip. That "feature" is even less discoverable :)

Some ideas:

- Even it's not so discoverable shot the album title as a tooltip, because sometime you will discover it accidently (oh, like me just in this moment, it's already implemented :) )

- If muine knows there is no Album cover show the album title.
1) It could be shown in the area, where the image should be, like the alt-text in HTML, when a image isn't found.

Or

2) It could be like in the screenshot/patch.

Cons:

1) not much space and could look ugly. the muine logo is much more pretty :)

2) user could be confused, why muine shows the name of some albums and of others not.

Changing component. Filter "uws doing muine component triaging" to get rid of the spam. Thanks!

muine development has been stalled and it has been unmaintained for a few years now. Maintainers don't have future development plan so i am closing all the bugs as WONTFIX. Please feel free to reopen the bugs in future if anyone takes the responsibility for active development.
