Description Tim-Philipp Müller 2006-03-07 12:09:48 UTC
When the file chooser is in Save Mode, the 'Browse in other folders' expander label should read 'Save in other folder' or something similar.

Reason: for novice users who just want to save something at a specific location, it is not obvious that 'Browse in other folders' gets them closer to what they want to do, namely specify the directory where to save something. If one doesn't know what it does, one might believe it's just there to explore the file system and do other things.

This is nothing that would have ever occured to me before I watched a friend of mine fail at saving a picture into a specific directory. The directory she wanted was not in the 'Save in folder' combo box, so she got stuck and in the end gave up. (That was an otherwise very computer-literate person, btw).

This will probably be fixed when we replace the expander by an
"Other folder..." item in the combo box.
Comment 2 Michael Partridge 2006-12-13 23:42:17 UTC
I think the text should be something like:
"Browse files and folders"

'cause it's not just about selecting a different folder, the user might want to select an existing filename to overwrite.

Retitling for clarity.
Comment 4 Matthias Clasen 2015-01-31 02:53:51 UTC
there's no expander anymore
