I can confirm this bug on my radeon 8500LE. I also see color distortion on the bottoms of treeview headers and the backgrounds of active and highlighted buttons. These problems seem to go away if I disable renderaccel in my xorg.conf, so one might assume it's something to do with the opensource radeon driver (and/or cairo).
I assume this is more likely to be a cairo bug than an engine bug. Do you know what version of cairo you were using, and whether the latest version makes any difference?
I can confirm that this happens. Disabling RenderAccel would fix this, so I've heard. And it doesn't happen with vesa driver. So I'm guessing the problem lies with cairo or RENDER. Not much I can do about it.
this problem is fixed in ubuntu edgy (still present in ubuntu dapper). see https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/34435
Closing this bug since it was most likely a problem cairo and/or ati.
