GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 332891
beagle-live needs beagled in order to initialize
Last modified: 2006-03-01 04:06:40 UTC
I've been meaning to tell you how amazingly fast d-a has become after the latest beagle-live optimizations :) I'm impressed ! Now you get a bug report instead:( I'm not certain it's related to the latest changes in beagle live, but suspect it is. The problem is that if d-a is started before beagled, then beagle-live can not be chosen as a handler in the pref-dialog. Starting beagled does not help, but restarting d-a solves the problem. Personally I would prefer the speed gained in the latest versions, but I fear it is not very nice from a usability point of view. Other information:
This happens to me also using beagle 0.2.1 and deskbar both 2.13.92 and 2.13.91. The pref-dialog doesn't offer the beagle-live handler _even_ if I restart the applet after having logged in (I launch beagle in my .xsession with 'beagled --replace').
I need your help here, because here beagle-live is shown and can be enabled *even when beagled/mono/whatever is not running at all !*. I'm confused. Maybe it's because of beagle-CVS. Anyway, i notice an error in the check. Basically if you don't have python bindings it should not appear. But if it just can't contact the beagled daemon, then it should appear in the list with a more... box.
Should be fixed in CVS, using a slightly different way of handling things. Now: - if you don't have the python bindings it's hidden and you need a restart - if you don't have the daemon running, it's shown disabled, and you need to enable the daemon to be able to enable the beagle live handler - if everything is fine, it can be enabled
OK, thanks. My problem it seems was a lack of a dependency on the package python-beagle (in ubuntu dapper). Already reported there: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/deskbar-applet/+bug/33218
