In short, FC should select the exact same items when you press CTRL+A that it
would when you'd call the select_all() method, it's simply a small inconsistency
and a small usability bug.

Yeah.  I actually think select_all() should select *everything* just like Ctrl-A does; not just files or folders.  This is easy to fix; do you think you could provide a patch?

Can you describe the difference between the two selections? It's difficult to guess if you don't know it and I have no way to check that this bug is still relevant.
