GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 331703
Use a real breadcrumb widget in the pathbar
Last modified: 2021-06-18 15:51:56 UTC
That bug has been described on https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/29933 "To make the pathbar more intuitive, you could add a small triangle pointing rightwards between each button. I saw this in Vista screenshots and it looks more understandable. You could also remove the frame around the buttons, since the pathbar is perceived like a toolbar."
I agree with this. There's a lot that could be done here. Some examples: * http://chrislord.net/blog/Software/mx-path-bar.enlighten * http://linuxart.com/log/archives/2009/07/24/nautilus-streamlined/ Shouldn't this bug be filed against Gtk?

I think Software Center in Ubuntu might have some code than can be reused for this (maybe different languages though, don't look at me, I'm not a expert :) http://anthonyrhook.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/SoftwareCenter.png

Waiting on Cody to file that GTK+ bug for a breadcrumb widget.
Changing component as part of ongoing bug reorganisation work.

I saw a GTK3 breadcrumb widget in the file chooser dialog. We should use it.
Jakub, do you think this is something we want?
The latest mockups use a breadcrumb widget to indicate the current path: https://raw.github.com/gnome-design-team/gnome-mockups/master/nautilus/nautilus-next/documents.png
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version of Files (nautilus), then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
