GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 331662
deskbar could be called as a dialog instead of applet
Last modified: 2006-07-10 11:19:33 UTC
Well, I use the Run Application menu all the time. I set it to launch with Super_R and I use it to open all kind of things: documents, folders, applications. Its so handy. I like deskbar too, but I don't like it just sitting on my panel -where space is scarce- when I'm not using it. So, why the applet approach? Why not put it inside the gnome menu or turn it into something like Run Application, but with lots of additional capabilities?
Ooops i fogot to comment.. This feature is a long term goal not achievable for 2.14 timeframe. There has also been some reticence because of the long startup time and memory usage because of python. We'll find a way to do it anyway..
Patches welcome.. i have no time to do this
This is actually a really neat job for a new comer. I don't have time for this myself, but I will be more than willing to provide extensive help for any one stepping up...
Gnome-love welcome then, see comment above
I would like to take that task. I know python/pygtk pretty well, nevertheless I will need some help. Somebody needs to tell me which parts I actually need from the package to get it running. You can contact me by mail or #deskbar
I wrote most of the current UI code, so you probably want to talk to me. I'll send you a mail, shortly. Cheers
