GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 329225
Burn status information is too minimal
Last modified: 2009-07-29 10:45:49 UTC
The text currently in the "Writing Files to Disc" dialog says: "The selected files are being written to a CD or DVD. This operation may take a long time, depending on data size and write speed." It is my opinion that if we are to mention that the time it takes is dependent on two variables, we should provide those two variables to the user. As a user, they may think, "Neat, i wonder what the data size is and what the write speed is?" I suggest that the staus line be modified from "Writing DVD" in italics to "Writing 2.3gb DVD at 16x" for example. In addition, since we obviously know that we are writing a DVD or a CD, we should say that in the text section. It should say, "The selected files are being written to a DVD." in the text at the top of the window for example. Other information:
Thanks for your bug report! Adam Purkrt [1] also points out that the name of a currently written ISO image should also be displayed, i.e. "Writing 'foo.iso' to DVD" instead of "Writing image to DVD", "Image 'foo.iso' is being written to ...." instead of "The selected disc image is being written to a DVD ...." and "Image 'Foo.iso' succesfully written to disc.". He also suggests to display the elapsed time after the image was written. [1] http://mail.gnome.org/archives/nautilus-list/2006-March/msg00015.html
nautilus-cd-burner has been replaced by Brasero in the GNOME 2.26 release. If your bug still applies to Brasero, please feel free to re-open the bug, and reassign it to brasero itself.
