Description Karsten Bräckelmann 2006-01-07 16:34:53 UTC
If Junk Filtering is enabled, but SA is not available, Evo should notice the user about this. Since SA is not a hard dep of Evo itself (which is good), it is way too easy for the user to be biten by a missing SA getting the impression Junk Filtering is worthless.

also see bug 257091, bug 321788 and a thousand others. ;-p

Now evolution has been moved to Bogo filter and it gets installed by default then bug should be obsolete now ?
Comment 3 Matthew Barnes 2008-11-17 12:34:26 UTC
I don't think it's obsolete because we still don't handle the situation well, regardless of which filtering backend we've chosen as default.

When neither of the junk filtering backends are installed:

  - The main window gives no indication of whether automatic junk filtering
is enabled. I'd like to see an inline alert [*] when the Junk folder is
selected explaining either the state of your junk filtering options and
how to begin training the filter, or that neither of the junk filtering
    plugins are enabled.

  - "Message -> Check for Junk" remains enabled, but silently does nothing.

  - The junk plugins can still be enabled. They should either be grayed out
or not appear in the plugin list at all. The EPlugin system still lacks
sufficient infrastructure to implement, and the current workaround of
showing the backend status in an entirely different window (Preferences)
    is clumsy and non-obvious.

I'd like to see at least a portion of this addressed before closing the bug.
Also, updating the summary to not be SpamAssassin-specific.

[*] By "inline alert" I mean something similar to what GEdit, Sound Juicer,
and other GNOME apps are starting to use. It looks like an alert dialog
but appears directly in the main window along with buttons to dismiss the
    alert or take appropriate actions.

I am using Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit. When I use the bogo filter evolution can not check for spam. Have to install the Spamassassin and then it is ok. Is it a bug in Evolution 2.24.1 for the 64 bit under Ubuntu 8.10?
Do I have to send this onder new bug?(I do not understand everything on this forum).
Comment 5 Dan Vrátil 2011-04-20 12:10:49 UTC
Hi,

I think this bug is no more valid, since Evo uses the inline notification as GEdit to notify about missing junk filter every time it tries to use it (e.g. when a new message is delivered) and also displays warning in the preferences dialog when you select an unavailable junk filter.
Comment 6 Matthew Barnes 2011-04-20 13:03:58 UTC
Yeah I think you're right. Thanks for checking this. We'll close the bug as obsolete.
