GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 325482
RFE: cmdline opt for running app fullscreen with no borders
Last modified: 2010-05-20 20:02:17 UTC
I want to have an option for all gnome apps so that I can start the app in fullscreen mode with no window borders so that I can launch any gnome app on my DVR / media center and have it work well on a TV without a traditional mouse. Currently, many apps require special options to run fullscreen, and many do not support running fullscreen. I would consider having GNOME apps support this with the menu bar along the top to be a great option.
Sound like a good idea to me
Shouldn't this bug be moved to libgnomeui?
IMHO this should be implemented in gnome-open, which AFAIK is part of libgnome.
Well, not all apps are started via gnome-open so I don't think it makes much sense to do it there. Furthermore gnome-open doesn't really have any notion of anything besides starting a process and then the program that got started by gnome-open would have to be able to make itself fullscreen anyway... Maybe gtk+ is the right place for this now?
I don't think gtk is the right place for this. The right solution is to use devilspie for this.
IMHO, devilspie is an interesting way to achieve my request, but it doesn't really add the generic functionality I think all gnome apps should have. I really want a generic, consistent way to start any gnome (or gtk+) app with a commandline flag in fullscreen mode. I want to be able to document this, and don't want to require that other users install devilspie and configure it for my commandline options to work for them.
Forgive me, I don't remember why I suggested gnome-open.
Not planned to be implemented as libgnome is dead.
