Description Jeff Cai 2005-12-19 05:36:38 UTC
Please describe the problem:
When you right click in the trash folder, a pop up menu shows. But the "delete"
option can not work.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Launch Evolution;
2. Go to any mail folder;
3. Delete some mails;
4. Go to Trash folders, you will see the mails you just deleted;
5. Right click the mail in the trash folder, and select "Delete".

Actual results:
Results:
The mail is not deleted.Still in the trash folder.

Expected results:
The mail in the trash is deleted or the delete option is disabled.

Does this happen every time?
Yes

Other information:
I check this behavior in Evolution 1.4, There is no "Delete" option in right
click menu in Trash box.

I believe that what I want to do is "Expunge" (Ctrl-E).

However, I fully agree that deleting an email already in the trash folder should expunge it : that's probably what the users wants to do. Moreover, the "expunge" function is not as discoverable as this "double-delete" process.

I am not sure whether we can expunge a single mail. I think expunge is a folder option.

So I think the solution is
either
        Don't show "Delete" menuitem for a mail in trash
or
        "Expunge" a mail if we can support this action.

The second option would really be better, I think. Even if we don't show "delete" for a mail in the trash, I think many users will still want to press the "Del" key to delete the mail forever, and will be surprised that nothing happens...

Am not sure if this is the right fix for the problem. I think UI guys need to actually take a decision on this
Comment 6 Karsten Bräckelmann 2006-01-21 00:18:12 UTC
"Deleting a mail in the Trash" really should expunge this one message (aka remove physically), as featured by other MUAs and proposed in this bug.

Simply ripping out UI bits isn't the correct way to go here, IMHO.

Thanks for reporting this issue! Considering the discussion and proposals, this actually is a duplicate of another bug. If you seriously don't think this is a duplicate, feel free to reopen this bug.
