GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 324085
"Copy..." is confusing
Last modified: 2009-09-22 12:58:09 UTC
Version details: 2.6.5 FC4 The "Copy" entry in the edit menu does not do what users would expect: when gthumb is invoked for a newly inserted digital camera, the window with the thumbnails looks a lot like a nautilus window - to get the files off a user might well try to do Ctrl-C and then Ctrl-V in a nautilus window. This doesn't work for two reasons: 1. There is no keyboard shortcut set for Copy 2. The copy command actually invokes a dialog for putting the files somewhere else, rather than putting a URI list on the clipboard. I would suggest that "Copy to..." would be better, and that a nautilus-like "Copy" be implemented as well.
Is it possible to add the "Copy & Paste" behaviour similar to nautilus? This means (as the original reporter suggests): Add * menu items Copy, Cut, Paste to the Edit menu and * corresponding shortcuts Ctrl+C, +X, +V to * copy/cut a URI list to the clipboard that * also works together with other programs, e.g. nautilus Unfortunately this is not implemented as of version 2.10.2 Thanks a lot! - Stefan
Sounds good to me, I can't use it to <control-c> a filename into my thunderbird->insert-image->select-file dialog as it is. Can't drag and drop it in the email either, but that's a different enhancement. Wow, this is from FC4 in 2005. Shoot I'll confirm the problem right now.
ext branch (http://live.gnome.org/gthumb) now has cut+paste functionality, and the UI has changed.
