Description Gour 2005-12-07 10:38:27 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Hi!

I encountered a problem with Evolution while trying to setup one IMAP account.

Not knowing what kind of security protocol is available on the server, I tried
with the 'Whenever Possible' option, but Evolution could not figure out that the
server was running IMAPS on 993 port which I came to know later (by email) after
contacting my friend who did setup.

Switching to the 'Always' worked immediately.

So, this is very annoying and can persuade some new Evolution users to e.g. try
Kmail instead.

My friend (Evo user itself) told me that Evolution tries with TLS & co. 1st and
has this problem and Guenther on #irc told me that the issue is mentioned
'..thousand times' in the mailing lists.

This is, imho, enough justification to fix it properly and possibly provide some
kind of feedback waht's going on during the 'discovery phase'.

Sincerely,
Gour

Pls.

Steps to reproduce:
1. in mailer, Receiving Email --> Check supported types with "Whenever possible"
option activated
2.
3.

Actual results:
Evolution tries for the long time, showing nothing and the process has to be
cancelled.

Expected results:
To discover what kind of security is available and/or report what is trying, ie.
testing for.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.
