Version details: 2.12.1 Distribution/Version: Ubuntu Breezy Browsing deep directory hierarchies would be easier and quicker if the path bar would always display as many of the previous directories as fits it. Please see attached screenshot for an example.

Thanks for your bug report! Still an issue with Nautilus 2.13, probably also for the file chooser. The button allocation is really suboptimal in some situations :/.
Another way to alleviate the problem would be to abbreviate long folder names when the names are being displayed in buttons. The button bar would be more useful with more buttons being shown than it is now with long names taking up so much space.
