GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 323099
Don't auto-add new contacts to list
Last modified: 2005-12-30 21:40:35 UTC
After accepting authorisation request, 0.9 added the contact automatically, without telling anything or any feedback whatsoever. This is, IMHO 1) Confusing (did it do anything? hung?) 2) Messy (how do you know I want Christopher and not Spooky on my list? And I want to have him in "Friends" group, too) 3) Rude Just as I'm opposed to Epi/FF dumping everything to my desktop, I'm opposed to Gossip knowing better. By all means, do prefill the details, and make it as easy as possible, but *not* easier. There's a subtle line between making my decisions easier, and making them for me. I don't wish to play hunt-and-peck on *my* contact list, thank you.
Wow, you sure know how to exaggerate, "3) Rude" ... ;) Anyway, I agree that this can be handled better. The reason for adding it directly is that it's very easy to break the subscription (ie, only get subscription one way). One thing I'm thinking about would be nice is to show a dialog making it possible to override (but the contact already being added with defaults at that point) which will change the groups and name.
OK, I have committed work which allows you to configure the name and group now.

Martyn: perfect, thanks. Hope to see it in new release soon :)
This is fixed in CVS.
