Description Michael Renzmann 2005-11-25 11:48:17 UTC
Please describe the problem:
The "Follow Up" condition for vFolders and advanced searches are not working as
intended. For example, I have several mails in my Inbox with set "follow up"
flags (circled exclamation mark is set for these mails).

Created a new search from Inbox:
Search -> Advanced Search:
Include threads: none (also tried the other possibilities to no avail)
Execute actions: if any criteria are met
  "Follow Up" "is Flagged"
OK

The search has no results. The same for a similar vFolder, no matter if it only
includes Inbox or all local folders.

This problem is fully reproducable. Restarting e-d-s and evo does not change the
situation.

Does this happen every time?

From my post at launchpad:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/228857

"Ok, I've figured out what the problem is. There appear to be two kinds of Flags.

There is the 'Flagged' column which appears by default in Ubuntu. Clicking in here next to a message makes an orange exclamation emblem appear next to that message. However these messages do not appear in a Follow Up Flagged search folder.

But if you right click on a message and choose 'Mark for follow up' these DO show up in a follow up search folder but the orange emblem doesn't appear next to them. I've discovered that you can add a column 'Flag status' which displays a little flag when you 'Mark for follow up'.

This isn't a bug as such, but its very odd behavior.

'Flagged' and 'Flagged for follow up' are completely different but overlapping features. One should be got rid of or one should be renamed.

There should be an option to filter for 'Flagged' messages, at the moment it is only possible to search for 'Flagged for follow up'.

At the very least Ubuntu should not enable the flagged column by default, and should instead show only the 'Flag status' column, since this is the more comprehensive of the two features.

To be honest, I can't get my head round why 2 of this feature was ever implemented in the first place! Weird."

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/Community/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new bug report ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
