Description Daniel Svensson 2005-11-24 17:19:23 UTC
Version details: mono 1.1.10
Distribution/Version: Debian/Unstable

Tooltips on various places would be nice. The 'Abort' button in find is pretty
obvious but buttons like the '+' in the bottom left gives no hint to its
application. Perhaps a small hint that it adds something, but you have to push
it to see what happens. There are probably more buttons that need tooltips.

The + button in the bottom-left simply needs to be removed, but you're
definitely right that many other widgets could benefit from them.

The two zoom icons (zoom in, zoom out) in the bottom-right could use tooltips,
as well as being made to be clickable (I've seen several friends try to click them).

Tooltips for the small tag icons that appear in the Find bar and at the bottom
of photos (in both Browse and Edit modes) would be good to, IMO.

The tag icon in the Edit Tag dialog should have a tooltip indiciating that
clicking it allows the user to change it.

Lastly, I think tooltips for in the timeline histogram would be good to show
what month/year the user is hovering over.

Patch against current CVS, adds tooltips to '+' button in corner of main view,
most of 'export to folder' dialog and tooltip on image temperature in image
correction dialog.

some of these are in now, are all of them?
Comment 4 Gabriel Burt 2006-01-17 06:23:04 UTC
All toolbar buttons and many others have had tooltips added.

Regarding Pasi's patch, what do you think Larry? The HIG doesn't seem to talk about tooltips except in the context of toolbars and menus, and the use of tooltips over other widgets in other applications seems limited.
Comment 5 Gabriel Burt 2006-01-29 06:15:20 UTC
Also, tooltips for the small tag icons that appear beneath photos are not in place yet. They're trickier to do since the icons are rendered onto a drawable and aren't their own widget, so a tooltip would appear when the user moused over any part of the photo, which isn't what we want.
Comment 6 Bengt Thuree 2007-11-26 17:06:58 UTC
Are we missing some obvious tooltips now?

tooltips for some elements of UI in f-spot.glade

Maintenance update: In the past we've been less than stellar in reviewing patches. As such we have a pile of patches in bugzilla which are outdated and don't apply anymore. Am currently marking all of these as "needs-work". My apologies for this.

Since I've become a maintainer of the project, I've set the personal rule of quickly reviewing all patches, to avoid that this happens again. If you (or anyone) wants to go through the trouble of updating this patch, please talk to us to figure out if it fits in the F-Spot long term roadmap.

Should you, in the future, notice a patch lingering around for too long, please notify us immediately and we'll look into it, to avoid situations like these from happening again.

F-Spot has moved to https://github.com/f-spot/f-spot/issues

If this Bugzilla ticket is still valid in a recent version of F-Spot, please feel free to post this topic as a ticket in the F-Spot project on GitHub.

Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping as we are planning to shut down GNOME Bugzilla in favor of GNOME Gitlab.
