GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 322118
Wrong letters in the rendered text
Last modified: 2005-12-03 22:10:41 UTC
Distribution/Version: Fedora Core 4 The monthly journal of Masaryk University is rendered incorrectly by evince. The sample document can be found at http://info.muni.cz/images/pdfmuni/muni07.pdf - in evince there are incorrect letters displayed (which have probably no correspondence to the real text), while in xpdf it works as expected. I will attach the screenshot of evince and xpdf, and the document itself. I use Fedora Core 4, evince-0.4.0-1.2, poppler-0.4.1-1.1 (tested both on i386 and amd64), and xpdf-3.01-0.FC4.2.

Created attachment 55074 [details] Screenshot from evince (not OK)
Hmm, the document is too big to be attached (2.3MB, 1.8MB after bzip2 -9). However, the above link to it will remain stable at least in the near future, AFAIK.
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/evince-list/2005-July/msg00011.html Please check if patch from that mail fixes problem for you. Please also search poppler bugzilla of freedesktop.org if this bug was reproted already. Looks like we should handle this closer.
I have reported this as well to the poppler bugzilla - https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5149. The above patch does not fix the problem - his problem was that some Hungarian characters were not displayed correctly (in wrong font or whatever). My problem is that _all_ characters (including the US-ASCII ones) are displayed as another characters (upper-case ASCII letters from the same font).
Thanks, not evince problem then.
