GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 318439
Battery applet dies on /etc/init.d/dbus restart
Last modified: 2020-11-06 19:56:02 UTC
This bug has been opened here: https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=17394 "If you execute /etc/init.d/dbus restart The battery status applet will die and ask if it should be reloaded. This happens, eg, when you upgrade/install an application that uses dbus. The applet should not do this, it should recover gracefully without prompting the user."
This is a D-BUS limitation and a pain in the neck. I blame Redhat.

I think that Gossip recently had a fix for this, not sure if they're attempting to reaquire the bus if it goes missing or not. Might be worth looking into.
