Description Raptor Ramjet 2005-10-04 11:44:19 UTC
Please describe the problem:
This is a very minor thing but it could potentially confuse someone with less
computer experience.

When using browser mode of Nautilus if you are browsing in a subdirectory of
your home folder then, if you delete the directory which owns the one you are
currently browsing, the right hand pane still keeps you browsing in the same
directory even though it (and the directories that own it) are now in the trash.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Switch Nautilus to browser mode
2. Switch the "Tree" into "Tree" view.
3. From the right hand tree select your home directory ("~")
4. Use the "File"> "Create Folder" menu to create a new directory. Call this
directory ""aaa".
5. In the right hand pane double click the new directory to enter it.
6. Again use the "File" > "Create Folder" menu and create directory "bbb" (full
name "~/aaa/bbb") Double click the new directory to enter it.
7. Create a new file "ccc" (full name "~/aaa/bbb/ccc")
8. In right hand "Tree" view right click on the "aaa" folder and delete it.

Actual results:
When the folder is deleted the right hand pane is still showing you the contents
of the "bbb" directory even though this is now in the trash. Pressing the "Up"
arrow repeatedly (or using "Alt & up arrow") will take you back up to the
contents of trash.

Expected results:
When the "aaa" directiry was deleted I would have expected the right hand pane
to have shown me the contents of my home folder as that was the next available
"non deleted" directory in the hierarchy.

Whilst it is perfectly logical that Nautilus should still keep you browsing in
the directory (after all the directory still exists it's just that it's now
located in the ~./trash directory) from a logical standpoint a deleted directory
should no longer be visible - unless of course you're viewing the waste basket
with a view to reinstating mistakenly deleted items.

Does this happen every time?
Yes

Point 3 should have read:

3. From the LEFT hand tree select your home directory ("~")

Damn I wish you could edit bugs (or at least preview the text) as it's hard to
type all the information into those fiddly little text boxes without making a
mistake (yeah, yeah I know use GEdit and cut & paste....)

Hi, I'm on Ubuntu Dapper 6.06 with Nautilus version 2.14.3. When I right-click on a folder in the treeview in order to move it to the garbage bin, the whole nautilus window disappears.

I'm unable to reproduce this. Deleting the parent directory from the tree view correctly updates the view. Am closing as obsolete for now. Please let us know if you are still having problems with this though.
