Description robert leleu 2005-09-30 13:41:26 UTC
Please describe the problem:
I leave messages on a pop server (pop.wanadoo.fr), in order to be able to
download them also with another computer.

....and Evolution download them each time it connects!

....on the contrary Outlook (on the other computer) handels the downloads
conveniently.

Steps to reproduce:
(French version)
1. in Outils Paramètres, One of the comptes, Editer, Réception du courrier,
Activate Conserver les messages sur le serveur
2. Once a message is received and let on the pop server, have another connection
3. You receive the message at each connection.

Expected results:

Does this happen every time?
yes

Other information:
Oddly enough, it seems that I used previously this possibility, without any
problem, but I'm not sure of that, then I discontinued, and now, for sure I have
the problem.

hi robert, thanks for reporting.

you can try to "Disable support for all POP3 extensions" in your account
preferences to see if that helps.

There are several possible reasons when this happens:
* You have got several copies in your mailbox
* The mail server supports the UIDL extension yet changes the message UIDs each
session
* The mail server does not support UIDL (which means Evolution has to generate
UIDs using md5sums of the message headers) but the server changes the message
headers after download (usually adding a Status: or X-Status: header -
Evolution's md5sum ignores these, but Evolution may be missing other headers
that this particular server munges)
* $HOME/.evolution/mail/pop/cache-* files are not writable
There is also a script
(http://lists.ximian.com/archives/public/evolution/2005-January/041442.html)) to
get rid of duplicates and an external plugin available
(http://www.advogato.org/person/garnacho/diary.html?start=18).

Comment 4 robert leleu 2005-11-08 09:14:27 UTC
1/ I found a solution: not to leave the mails on the server, but have a copy
sent by the server ton another mail account.

2/ Meantime, in order to use the same mail software on my Linux computer and on
the Windows computer of my wife, I discontinued using Evolution to use Thunderbird.

Consequently I'm no longer in a position to investigate this point....and think
the topic could be closed, as non confrirmed....

Thanks for your help.
