"The "login screen setup" window is very wide (much wider than my 19' LCD
monitor) when using Simplified Chinese as default language, the window size is
not adjustable. No problem if English is the default language."

I don't see such problem with Dapper, under both zh_CN and
zh_TW locale:

Can anybody confirm or deny if this problem occurs only for
specific releases of gdm?

this string has changed with the gdmsetup new design/CVS but you may want to fix
it for the stable version

Already been fixed in 2.16.x and trunk. Please upgrade to latest version.
