GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 313672
Disable image information side pane by default
Last modified: 2005-11-18 04:04:47 UTC
The "File" tab in the image information side pane doesn't provide any information that already isn't available to the user. The filename is already displayed in the window title. Width, height and size are already displayed in the status bar. It just steals precious space away from the primary thing EOG is used for, viewing images.
Agreed. In fact - you are talking about two things here: disabling the image information side pane as a default option, and removing the file tab entirely. Disableing it by default seems like a good choice to me without a doubt, but I suspect the file tab could have other relevant info for other images. Perhaps I'm wrong.
Thanks for the report! The image information pane is disabled by default in gconf now. EOG remembers the last pane state. If user closes EOG with the pane on, next time (s)he runs EOG, the pane will be shown. About image information pane cleanup, see bug #313676 to keep track on what's being suggested about it.
