Description Martin Vollrathson 2005-07-26 15:10:14 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Drawing tools, such as the paintbrush, only follow screen coordinates, even
though the (extended) input device may have a much higher resolution.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Zoom to 25%, draw a circle with the paintbrush.
2. Zoom to 400%, draw a circle with the paintbrush.

Actual results:
The first circle becomes jagged, following a 4-pixel grid. (25% zoom)
The second circle becomes smooth, as it follows a grid smaller than 1 pixel.
(400% zoom)

Expected results:
Both circles should be equally smooth, considering for example that the input
device has a resolution of 1000 DPI and the screen only has 90 DPI.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

Other information:
I tested this behavior with a Wacom Volito2 tablet. Resolution: 1016 DPI.

Two circles demonstrating the problem.

I've attached a PNG demonstrating the problem.
Comment 2 Martin Vollrathson 2005-07-26 16:15:10 UTC
This bug is still present in 2.3.2.
Comment 3 Sven Neumann 2005-07-27 10:04:01 UTC
What makes you think that your input device does actually reasonable
coordinates? You will also have to show that this is the case.
Comment 4 Sven Neumann 2005-07-27 10:23:29 UTC
Should have read "... does actually deliver reasonable coordinates?".
Comment 5 Martin Vollrathson 2005-07-27 23:38:12 UTC
Ok, I was apparently quite wrong about this. The problem is in the linuxwacom
driver, not in GIMP. There's an option "RawFilter" which is on by default. I'm
not sure exactly what it filters but when I turn it off, everything works as
expected.

So if the bug is not in the GIMP, I guess we can close this bug report (NOTGNOME)
