Description Mary Thompson 2005-07-16 05:48:25 UTC
Please describe the problem:
It is not easy to report a bug. First of all, the checkbox for "not gnome 2
desktop" is not very obvious--I kept trying to find GnuCash and couldn't in the
list. Second, there is no option for just english, and I'm not British or
Australian or Canadian--I live in the U.S. and there is no option for me--at
least not one that I could find. Third, by the time that I get to the last
screen to enter in my errors, I'm not even sure that it's going to the right
place anymore because I'm so confused by all the menus and I can't see the
decisions that I've already clicked past.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Try to report a bug.
2. See the problems.
3. Fix it.

Actual results:
Confusion.

Expected results:
That it would be easy to report a bug.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

Elijah, Olav, that is on the to-do list, isn't it?

Mary, what do you mean by "no option just for English"?

maybe it would be helpful to put the text
"Click here to also show applications not part of the GNOME 2 Desktop"
in bold font.
Comment 2 Olav Vitters 2005-07-16 13:51:36 UTC
AFAIK with enlish the translations option is meant... US English isn't a
translation, it is the original language. Perhaps we could add that to the list
and just file to the original program.

The "Click here" part should be separate list. I'm not going to touch that in
2.16, 2.20 will have something better.

Oh, and we should port this to 2.20
Comment 3 Elijah Newren 2005-07-16 14:21:01 UTC
Well the original page says "Translations<newline> Text in the application is
translated incorrectly into a language other than English" so the user really
should not expect English to be listed. If we use the list-English-anyway
option, do we have to worry about getting bug reports from translators who
notice a language in the list that doesn't belong (and/or comments from people
annoyed that we're suggesting that programs can have a different original
language since that would make translation much harder for most groups)? As a
more general solution, perhaps we could show the text from the first page they
selected whenever the user is selecting a product, just as a reminder?

Also, Olav, as far as categories in 2.20: the release team wants to blur the
distinction between Gnome and not-Gnome, so I don't think we want a "Gnome"
category and a "not gnome" category. It would be better if we divided up into
something close to release sets. I think we'd start with "Desktop", "Platform",
"Bindings", "Productivity" (has been proposed to the release team and may be
accepted before we finish the 2.20 upgrade), "Infrastructure" (bugzilla,
website, release engineering, etc.), "Deprecated", and "Other". But we already
have bug 167119 open about the categorization and it even includes a great
mocked-up example for us. :)
